INDOPOSCO.ID — Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs (Menko PMK) Pratikno stressed the importance of swift action in areas affected by the magnitude 7.7 earthquake that struck East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) on Saturday (Aug. 15, 2026), in an effort to accelerate the recovery of residents.
“Rescue efforts, healthcare services, and the restoration of basic infrastructure, such as hospitals, must be prioritized,” Pratikno said during an online coordination meeting on the response to the NTT earthquake on Saturday (Aug. 15, 2026).
He said the earthquake disaster had drawn the attention of President Prabowo Subianto. The government has prepared logistical assistance coordinated through the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).
“Support for the BNPB has been ordered by the President, and we hope the response can be carried out effectively,” Pratikno said.
He also urged local governments to identify emergency response needs so that rapid action could be taken with proper planning, including the need for temporary hospitals.
“Please identify these needs so that the central government can immediately deploy support more effectively,” Pratikno said.
According to Pratikno, identifying these needs would help the BNPB manage central government support for regions affected by the disaster.
During the coordination meeting, a number of ministries and government agencies had deployed resources, including personnel, supplies, and equipment to support the initial emergency response phase.
The response is prioritizing the evacuation and rescue of victims who remain trapped under building rubble, as well as those who have sustained injuries. The central government is also focusing on ensuring the fulfillment of basic needs. (dan)
