INDOPOSCO.ID — The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) recorded dozens of homes severely damaged after a magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) on Saturday (Aug. 15, 2026) morning.
“According to the latest data, 54 homes were heavily damaged, nine sustained moderate damage and 11 suffered minor damage,” Acting Head of BNPB’s Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Berton SP Panjaitan said in a statement issued in Jakarta on Saturday (Aug. 15, 2026).
Damage was also reported at five health facilities, one educational facility, one Bulog warehouse, three places of worship and six government offices.
“Manggarai Regency is among the areas that suffered significant damage. A total of 29 homes were heavily damaged, nine sustained moderate damage and nine suffered minor damage,” Berton said.
In addition, five health facilities and one educational facility were damaged.
Meanwhile, 23 homes were reported heavily damaged in East Manggarai Regency.
In Nagekeo Regency, preliminary reports indicate that two homes were heavily damaged, one sustained moderate damage and two suffered minor damage. Two places of worship also sustained minor damage, while five government offices were affected.
“Current conditions in the affected areas include traffic congestion, while electricity remains out,” Berton said.
The death toll from the earthquake in NTT has now reached 14.
The main earthquake was centered offshore at 8.41 degrees south latitude and 121.39 degrees east longitude, at a depth of 15 kilometers, approximately 38 kilometers northeast of Mbay in Nagekeo Regency. Strong tremors were felt for about one minute in Nagekeo, Sikka, West Manggarai and Bima City. (dan)
