INDOPOSCO.ID – Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) recorded 42 disaster incidents during the final days of July, covering the period of July 30–31, 2026. Of the total, 36 incidents had significant impacts.
Based on BNPB’s monitoring, newly reported disasters were dominated by forest and land fires and drought affecting several regions across Indonesia.
Abdul Muhari, Head of BNPB’s Data, Information and Disaster Communication Center, said a new forest and land fire occurred in Aceh Besar Regency, Aceh Province, on Thursday (July 30, 2026). The fire was reported in the Seulawah Protected Forest area, specifically in Seunapet.
“The fire was triggered by hot and dry weather conditions, which made the land highly flammable and allowed the flames to spread rapidly,” Abdul Muhari said in a statement in Jakarta on Friday (July 31, 2026).
According to a rapid assessment conducted by the local Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the fire burned approximately 20 hectares of land covering areas in Suka Damai Village, Lembah Seulawah District, and Data Makmur Village, Blang Bintang District.
A forest and land fire also occurred in Tojo Una-Una Regency, Central Sulawesi, on Thursday (July 30, 2026), affecting approximately three hectares of land. The fire was located in Tampanombo Village, Ulubongka District.
“As of this morning, firefighting efforts were still underway. The flames on small branches have been extinguished, but embers remain in tree trunks located on steep terrain. Firefighters continue suppression efforts to prevent the fire from spreading again,” Abdul Muhari said.
BNPB said dry weather conditions and strong winds caused the fire to spread rapidly across the affected area, making it difficult for the landowner to control. Following firefighting operations by a joint response team, the blaze was brought under control, and conditions at the site were declared stable.
Meanwhile, a forest and land fire in Sorong City, Southwest Papua, which burned around two hectares of land, has also been extinguished by joint emergency response personnel.
In addition to wildfires, BNPB recorded two new drought incidents in Gorontalo Province. In Gorontalo Regency, the drought affected 1,060 households, or 2,194 people.
“The Gorontalo Provincial BPBD, together with the Gorontalo Regency BPBD, is continuing data collection and assessments of affected residents while identifying clean water needs,” Abdul Muhari added.
In Bone Bolango Regency, the drought affected 453 households, or 1,192 people. (dan)
