INDOPOSCO.ID – Escalating tensions in the Middle East conflict since late February 2026 have claimed the lives of six United Nations peacekeepers serving in Lebanon under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) mission as of April. Of the total, Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) personnel account for the highest number of fatalities.
The latest Indonesian UNIFIL casualty is Corporal Rico Pramudia, who died on Friday (April 24, 2026). He had been receiving treatment after sustaining severe injuries from a projectile strike at the UN base in Adchit Al Qusayr on March 29, 2026.
“UNIFIL announced this morning that Corporal Pramudia has died from his wounds in a hospital in Beirut,” UNIFIL said, as reported by Sky News on Saturday (April 25, 2026).
Separate reports indicate that two French soldiers serving in the UNIFIL peacekeeping mission were killed in attacks in southern Lebanon in April 2026. The first casualty was a soldier who died instantly while conducting route-clearing operations in the area on April 18, 2026.
The second was Master Corporal Anicet Girardin, who sustained critical injuries in the same attack on April 18. After being evacuated to France on April 21, he was pronounced dead from his injuries on April 22, 2026.
French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed the deaths of the French troops following the attack.
“A French peacekeeper, who was wounded in southern Lebanon on Saturday, has died,” Macron said, as reported by Al Jazeera.
Earlier fatalities among UNIFIL personnel included three Indonesian soldiers: Major (posthumous) Zulmi Aditya Iskandar, Sergeant First Class (posthumous) Muhammad Nur Ichwan, and Corporal (posthumous) Farizal Rhomadon. All three were declared killed in late March 2026.
According to official reports, Private First Class Fahrizal was killed at a UNIFIL post in the Adchit Al Qusayr area, while Captain Zulmi and Staff Sergeant Muhammad died in an attack targeting a logistics convoy in Bani Hayyan.(dan)
