INDOPOSCO.ID – Volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau has affected flight operations. AirNav Indonesia has extended the temporary closure of airspace at three airports: Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, and Radin Inten II Airport, on Sunday (Sept. 6, 2026).
AirNav Indonesia Executive Vice President of Corporate Secretary Hermana Soegijantoro said the closure was extended following an update to aeronautical information through the issuance of Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs).
“AirNav Indonesia has once again updated aeronautical information regarding the extension of the temporary closure of airspace at three airports due to volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau,” Hermana said in a written statement on Sunday (Sept. 6, 2026).
He explained that Soekarno-Hatta International Airport remained closed under NOTAM A3346/26 (NOTAMR A3344/26). The closure took effect at 8:36 a.m. local time (WIB) and was expected to be lifted at 1:30 p.m.
Halim Perdanakusuma Airport also had its closure extended under NOTAM A3347/26 (NOTAMR A3345/26). The closure took effect at 9:49 a.m. and was expected to be lifted at 2 p.m.
Meanwhile, Radin Inten II Airport was closed starting at 9:55 a.m. The extension was stated in NOTAM B1125/26 (NOTAMR B1124/26), with reopening expected at 2 p.m.
“We are ensuring that monitoring of airspace conditions and the distribution of volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau continues through the Indonesia Network Management Center (INMC),” Hermana said.
According to Hermana, aeronautical information is updated periodically in line with the latest developments. The measure is part of efforts to maintain flight safety.
“AirNav Indonesia is also continuing to coordinate with aviation stakeholders to ensure that information regarding airspace conditions and air navigation services is communicated accurately and in a timely manner,” he said.
He added that the extension of the closures would continue to be determined by developments in the spread of volcanic ash. AirNav Indonesia will also update aeronautical information based on the latest conditions on the ground. (nas)
