INDOPOSCO.ID – Indonesia’s Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) uncovered an international online gambling network operating in the Hayam Wuruk area of Central Jakarta on Saturday (May 9, 2026). In the operation, authorities arrested 321 foreign nationals allegedly involved in running the illegal gambling activities.
Bareskrim Director of General Crimes Brig. Gen. Wira Satya Triputra said the crackdown stemmed from public reports regarding suspicious activities involving several foreign nationals inside a building in West Jakarta.
“Based on our investigation, we discovered indications of an organized gambling operation involving foreign nationals from multiple countries,” Wira said in Jakarta on Saturday.
The suspects consisted of 57 Chinese nationals, 228 Vietnamese nationals, 11 Laotian nationals, 13 Myanmar nationals, three Malaysian nationals, five Thai nationals, and three Cambodian nationals.
“The suspects were caught red-handed while actively conducting online gambling operations,” Wira stated.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the syndicate had been operating for approximately two months. Police also identified around 75 domains and websites allegedly used to facilitate the online gambling activities.
In addition to detaining the suspects, investigators seized several pieces of evidence, including passports, mobile phones, laptops, desktop computers, and cash in various currencies.
The suspects have been charged under Articles 426 and/or 607 in conjunction with Articles 20 and/or 21 of Law No. 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code, as well as Law No. 1 of 2026 on Criminal Penalty Adjustments.
“We will also conduct financial tracing and investigate the servers and IP addresses connected to the communication network,” Wira added. (dan)
