INDOPOSCO.ID – Badan Meteorologi, Klimatologi, dan Geofisika (BMKG) forecasts that most parts of Indonesia will see rainfall on Saturday (Feb. 21, 2026).
BMKG forecaster Masayu Franstika, speaking via the agency’s official YouTube channel monitored in Jakarta, urged the public to remain alert for the potential of heavy to very heavy rain in North Sumatra, West Java, Central Java, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, North Maluku, and Highland Papua.
Starting with Sumatra Island, light rain is expected in Banda Aceh, Medan, Pekanbaru, Padang, Bengkulu, Palembang, Pangkal Pinang, and Bandar Lampung.
“Jambi will be blanketed by thick clouds, while thunderstorms are possible in Tanjung Pinang,” Masayu said.
Moving to Java Island, light rain is forecast for Bandung and Semarang, while Yogyakarta and Serang may experience moderate rainfall.
“Residents should be aware of possible thunderstorms in Jakarta and Surabaya,” she added.
In Kalimantan, light rain is expected in Tanjung Selor and Palangka Raya, while Pontianak and Samarinda are forecast to see moderate rainfall.
People in Banjarmasin are advised to stay alert for possible thunderstorms.
In Bali and Nusa Tenggara, light rain is forecast in Denpasar and Mataram.
“Thunderstorms are possible in Kupang,” Masayu said.
On Sulawesi Island, light rain is expected in Makassar, Kendari, and Manado, while Mamuju may see moderate rainfall.
“Be alert for possible thunderstorms in Palu and Gorontalo,” she noted.
In eastern Indonesia, light rain is forecast for Ambon and Ternate.
For Papua, Nabire is expected to see thick cloud cover. Light rain is forecast in Sorong, Manokwari, Jayapura, and Jayawijaya, while Merauke may experience moderate rainfall. (aro)
