INDOPOSCO.ID – The Jakarta Provincial Government has reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve the quality of public services, making them faster, more accurate, and more responsive, while ensuring that humans remain the primary decision-makers.
The commitment was highlighted during the Urban Talks session, “AI in The System: Enhancing the Quality of Jakarta’s Public Services,” held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. WIB at the Jakarta Grand Theater in Taman Ismail Marzuki, as part of the Jakarta Future Festival 2026.
The discussion featured Chico Hakim, Special Staff to the Governor of Jakarta for Social Communications; Marulina Dewi, Head of the Communications, Informatics, and Statistics Agency of Jakarta Province; and Widya Listyowulan, Government Affairs Director of microsoft.com. The session was moderated by Andhika Ajie, Head of the Regional Development Planning Sub-Agency (Subanppeda) of North Jakarta Administrative City.
As a city of more than 11 million residents and the core of a metropolitan region that accommodates tens of millions of daily movements, Jakarta faces increasingly complex challenges in delivering public services, ranging from transportation, healthcare, and education to disaster management and administrative services.
Speaking at the forum, Marulina Dewi emphasized that Jakarta’s primary challenge today is no longer a lack of data, but rather how to transform data into high-quality, integrated information capable of supporting faster, more accurate, and impactful decision-making for the public.
According to Marulina Dewi, Jakarta’s readiness for the AI era is built on five key foundations: high-quality data, system integration, reliable digital infrastructure, human resource capacity building, and strong governance. These foundations will enable AI to help government agencies analyze data more efficiently, anticipate service needs, and support more informed decision-making.
However, she stressed that AI is not intended to replace human roles. Technology can help government institutions work faster and smarter, while decisions and public services will continue to be determined by people who understand the context, needs, and interests of citizens.
To support this transition, strengthening the capabilities of civil servants remains a key priority in Jakarta’s digital transformation agenda. Public officials need to be equipped with data literacy, digital technology competencies, and the skills required to use AI ethically and responsibly.
Through this approach, AI can serve as a tool to improve analytical capabilities, accelerate service delivery, and support the development of more targeted public policies, while civil servants remain the primary drivers of public service delivery.
Another speaker, Chico Hakim, Special Staff to the Governor of Jakarta for Social Communications, noted that while technology can accelerate public services, public trust is built through open and accessible communication. According to him, when citizens understand what the government is doing, participation and collaboration are more likely to grow.(srv)
