INDOPOSCO.ID — Indonesia’s Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) searched the residence of former Deputy Minister of Immigration and Corrections, Silmy Karim, on Brawijaya III Street, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, on Friday (June 5, 2026).
The search was conducted as part of an investigation into an alleged extortion scheme involving residence permits for foreign nationals.
According to KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo, the search of Silmy Karim’s home was carried out as part of investigators’ efforts to obtain additional evidence needed to advance the case.
“KPK believes that this search may uncover additional evidence required by investigators to help clarify the case,” Budi told reporters in Jakarta on Friday.
The search took place one day after Silmy Karim and seven other suspects were placed in KPK detention for an initial period of 20 days at the agency’s Red and White Building detention facility, starting on Thursday.
The case centers on allegations of irregularities within the Directorate General of Immigration concerning the expedited issuance of Limited Stay Permits (ITAS) and Permanent Stay Permits (ITAP), particularly for foreign workers.
Several officials are suspected of collecting unauthorized fees outside official regulations in exchange for faster processing of immigration documents. Under Indonesia’s Anti-Corruption Law, collecting such payments without depositing them into the state treasury may constitute the criminal offense of extortion.
The other suspects named in the case are Saffar Godam, Acting Director General of Immigration for the 2024–2025 period; Ronald Amran Abdullah, Head of the Central Jakarta Immigration Office (2024–2025) and Head of the West Jakarta Immigration Office (2025–2026); Tessar Bayu Setyaji, Head of the Subdirectorate for Residence Permit Status Conversion at the Directorate of Residence Permits and Immigration Status; Jaya Saputra, Head of the West Java Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration and former Director of Residence Permits and Immigration Status; Bagus Bramantyo, a subdirectorate official at the Directorate of Residence Permits; Juniadi Sri Priambudi, Head of the ITAS Status Conversion Team; and Gusti Benardiansyah, a staff member of the Residence Permit Subdirectorate.
