INDOPOSCO.ID – The Banten Regional Police (Polda Banten) has provided an update on the activity of Mount Anak Krakatau, which remains at Level III (Alert).
Banten Police Public Relations Chief Commissioner Maruli Ahiles Hutapea said that, based on a report from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), during the observation period from 6 a.m. to noon local time on Monday, September 7, 2026, Mount Anak Krakatau remained at Level III (Alert).
“Seismic activity was recorded as fluctuating, with continuous tremors recorded at amplitudes ranging from 3 to 20 millimeters, predominantly at 8 millimeters,” he said on Monday (Sept. 7, 2026).
Maruli said vigilance remained necessary as a precautionary measure.
“Residents, visitors, tourists and hikers are urged to comply with PVMBG recommendations by staying away from Mount Anak Krakatau and refraining from any activities within a three-kilometer radius of the active crater,” he said.
Furthermore, Maruli Ahiles Hutapea urged residents affected by volcanic ash to use personal protective equipment when cleaning up the ash, particularly masks and eye protection.
“Volcanic ash can affect the respiratory system and cause irritation to the eyes and skin. Therefore, residents are advised to wear masks, protective eyewear, gloves, long-sleeved clothing and closed-toe footwear when cleaning up volcanic ash,” he said.
Maruli Ahiles Hutapea also urged the public not to be easily influenced by information that could cause concern and to rely on official government sources.
“We urge the public to remain calm, not panic, and not be easily influenced by information whose sources are unclear. The public should follow developments through official information from PVMBG, local governments and the police,” he said. (yas)
