INDOPOSCO.ID — Indonesia’s Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is expected to soon detain two newly named suspects in an alleged corruption case involving additional Hajj quotas for the 2023–2024 period.
The two suspects are Ismail Adham, Operational Director of PT Makassar Toraja (Maktour), and Asrul Azis Taba, Chairman of the Kesthuri Association and Commissioner of PT Raudah Eksati Utama.
KPK Deputy for Enforcement and Execution Asep Guntur Rahayu said the agency has coordinated with its investigators regarding plans to detain the two suspects.
“In the near future, yes. Please wait. God willing, the detention may take place this week or next week,” Asep said in Jakarta on Monday (June 1, 2026).
He explained that the decision to proceed with detention has taken time because investigators have been working to strengthen the evidentiary basis of the case.
“Of course, this relates to the sufficiency of evidence, because we must thoroughly prepare the evidence,” Asep said.
He added that detention is also subject to specific legal time limits.
“The case will eventually be presented in court. Therefore, once detention is carried out, it will be subject to the statutory detention period itself,” he said.
Ismail Adham and Asrul Azis Taba were named suspects by the KPK on March 30, 2026, in connection with the alleged Hajj quota corruption case. Their designation as suspects was part of an expanded investigation stemming from an earlier suspect, former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas. (dan)
