INDOPOSCO.ID – Retired Indonesian Army General Ryamizard Ryacudu, who served as Indonesia’s defense minister from 2014 to 2019, died on Sunday (May 31, 2026) at the intensive care unit of Gatot Soebroto Army Central Hospital (RSPAD) in Central Jakarta. He was 76.
News of his passing was first circulated by former National Narcotics Agency (BNN) chief, retired Police Commissioner General Ahwil Loetan, through a message shared in a WhatsApp group. The message contained information regarding Ryacudu’s identity, time of death, and preparations for funeral arrangements.
“This is official bereavement news. Good afternoon, Sir. With your permission, I would like to report preliminary information regarding a death notice. Ryamizard Ryacudu has passed away. Age: 76. Position: Minister of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia from 2014 to 2019,” Ahwil Loetan said when contacted in Jakarta on Sunday.
“The deceased is currently being transferred for funeral preparations at the RSPAD funeral home. Further arrangements are still awaiting the family’s decision,” he added.
Brig. Gen. Rico Ricardo Sirait, Head of Information at the Ministry of Defense Secretariat General, separately confirmed the report. According to information received from the family, Ryacudu’s body will lie in state at a funeral home located in the Puri Wira Bhakti housing complex, Cikeas, Bogor.
“We have received the sad news that retired Army General Ryamizard Ryacudu passed away today, Sunday, May 31, 2026, at 2:03 p.m. Western Indonesia Time (WIB) at RSPAD,” Rico said in a statement issued in Jakarta.
Ryamizard Ryacudu served as Indonesia’s defense minister during President Joko Widodo’s Working Cabinet from October 27, 2014, to October 20, 2019. Prior to that, he served as Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army (KSAD) from 2002 to 2005 and Commander of the Army Strategic Reserve Command (Kostrad) from 2000 to 2002. (dan)
