INDOPOSCO.ID – Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) have arrested a man identified by the initials MY in connection with a suspected bomb threat targeting SDN Srengseng Sawah 15 in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, on Monday (July 13, 2026).
Jakarta Metropolitan Police spokesperson Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto confirmed the arrest, saying the suspect lives near the school where the incident occurred.
“One individual, identified by the initials MY, has been secured in connection with the terror threat. The suspect resides near the school where the incident took place,” Budi Hermanto told reporters in Jakarta on Monday.
Police are continuing to investigate the suspect’s alleged motive and purpose. The suspect is currently undergoing questioning at Jakarta Metropolitan Police headquarters.
“Investigators are still looking into the suspect’s purpose and motive,” Budi Hermanto said.
The bomb threat disrupted the first day of the 2026/2027 academic year at SDN Srengseng Sawah 15 Pagi in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, on Monday morning.
South Jakarta Metro Police Public Relations Section Chief AKP Joko Adi Wibowo said the threat was delivered to the school through a WhatsApp message sent by an unidentified individual.
“At 6:45 a.m. WIB, the Jagakarsa Police Chief received information that one of the teachers had received a WhatsApp message from an unknown number stating that ‘within a few minutes SDN 15 Pagi will explode,'” Joko Adi said separately when contacted by phone in Jakarta on Monday.
After receiving the report, police officers immediately went to the school and coordinated with school officials.
“At 7:30 a.m. WIB, Jagakarsa Police Chief Commissioner Nurma and officers arrived at the scene and immediately coordinated with the school administration in response to the report,” Joko Adi said.
