INDOPOSCO.ID – The Indonesian National Police (Polri) have formed a joint task force to track down the perpetrators behind an acid attack on human rights activist Andrie Yunus, as authorities move to thoroughly investigate the assault.
“We have formed a joint team consisting of investigators from the Central Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit, the Metro Jaya Regional Police, and the Criminal Investigation Department of the National Police,” said Metro Jaya Police Director of General Criminal Investigation Senior Commissioner Iman Imanuddin in Jakarta on Monday (March 16, 2026).
Police are still pursuing the suspects who allegedly followed the victim before carrying out the acid attack on the deputy coordinator of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS).
Iman said there were four suspected perpetrators, each playing different roles. Some of the suspects, who were riding motorcycles, split up after the attack—some heading toward Matraman in East Jakarta, while others fled toward South Jakarta.
“After the incident, our team traced the suspects, who escaped in different directions,” Iman said.
Two motorcycles were used in the attack, each carrying two people. One of the motorcycles even drove against traffic from Salemba Street toward Senen. The attack itself took place on Salemba I Street.
“From Senen they moved to Kramat Raya Street, then to Tugu Tani, continued toward Gondangdia Station, and headed to the South Jakarta area,” Iman explained.
Meanwhile, the other motorcycle did not turn back but instead headed toward Pramuka Sari II Street and continued to the Matraman area.
“They were monitored moving toward Jatinegara and then to Otto Iskandardinata Street in East Jakarta,” Iman added.
Police have officially upgraded the acid attack case involving KontraS Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus to the investigation stage.
Central Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Roby Hery Saputra confirmed the development but declined to elaborate further on the progress of the case involving the human rights activist.
“Yes, it has moved to the investigation stage,” Roby said separately when contacted by reporters in Jakarta on Saturday (March 14, 2026). (dan)
