INDOPOSCO.ID – The Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) reported that most regions across Indonesia are expected to experience light rainfall on Friday. However, residents in three areas are advised to remain alert due to the potential for rain accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms.
BMKG forecaster Ranti Kurniati, in a written statement from Jakarta on Friday, said that parts of western Indonesia—particularly several cities in Sumatra—are likely to see light rain.
These cities include Banda Aceh, Medan, Pekanbaru, Padang, Tanjung Pinang, Bengkulu, and Palembang. Similar conditions are also expected in Pangkal Pinang, Bandar Lampung, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Pontianak, Palangkaraya, Tanjung Selor, and Samarinda.
Light rainfall is also forecast for Denpasar, Mataram, Kupang, Makassar, Palu, Gorontalo, Manado, Ternate, Ambon, Sorong, Manokwari, and the Jayawijaya highlands.
Meanwhile, thunderstorms may occur in Banjarmasin, Kendari, and Merauke. Thick cloud cover is also expected in Jambi, Serang, Jakarta, and Surabaya.
For moderate-intensity rainfall, BMKG projects potential occurrences in Mamuju, Nabire, and Jayapura. (aro)
