INDOPOSCO.ID – President Prabowo Subianto arrived at Kualanamu International Airport in Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, early Friday (December 12, 2025), following the completion of his working visit to Moscow, Russia. Shortly after landing in Indonesia, the President and his ministers departed directly for the city of Medan.
In Medan, President Prabowo is scheduled to inspect several areas affected by flash floods and landslides, as well as lead a coordination meeting on disaster response for three provinces in Sumatra—Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.
Garuda Indonesia-1, registered as PK-GIG, touched down at around 2 a.m. WIB. During the flight from Moscow, the President was accompanied by Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya. Upon landing, Teddy facilitated a brief greeting between the President and the aircraft’s captain and co-pilot before he disembarked to join the welcoming delegation on the apron.
At the foot of the aircraft stairs, President Prabowo was greeted by State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Head of the Government Communication Agency Angga Raka Prabowo, and North Sumatra Governor Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution. The President shook hands with each official present before proceeding to the presidential vehicle bearing the RI 1 license plate and leaving the airport.
Other officials followed the motorcade en route to Medan. This trip marks President Prabowo’s second visit to North Sumatra, after previously inspecting disaster-hit areas in Central Tapanuli on December 1, 2025.
Several districts and cities in North Sumatra—along with regions in Aceh and West Sumatra—were struck by flash floods and landslides on November 25, 2025. Nearly one thousand people were reported dead, while hundreds remain missing.
In a press briefing on Thursday (Dec. 11), the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) updated the death toll to 990. The breakdown includes 407 fatalities in Aceh, 343 in North Sumatra, and 240 in West Sumatra. Meanwhile, 225 people are still reported missing, according to Antara.
BNPB also reported that the number of displaced residents across the three affected provinces has reached 884,889. In addition, a total of 498 tons of aid has been delivered to Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra between November 28 and December 11, 2025, with 351.4 tons already distributed via land, sea, and air routes.
