INDOPOSCO.ID – Banten Governor Andra Soni joined the search operation for five journalists and three speedboat crew members who lost contact on Monday (Sept. 7) while covering Anak Krakatau.
The governor joined the Joint Search and Rescue (SAR) Team aboard the KN SAR 247 Tetuka, departing from Ciwandan Port in Cilegon City on Friday morning (Sept. 11, 2026).
“After four hours of travel, we have approached the area, which is still considered safe, meaning we are more than three kilometers from Anak Krakatau. We are currently circling Rakata Island,” Andra Soni said on Friday (Sept. 11, 2026).
During the operation, Andra Soni also pointed out Rakata Besar Island and Anak Krakatau from aboard the vessel, where he was traveling with the Joint SAR Team.
“That is Rakata Besar, and the silhouette you can see there is Anak Krakatau,” he said.
Andra Soni further said that the Joint SAR Team aboard RIB 02 was conducting a search around Sertung Island, located not far from Krakatau.
“We are supporting RIB 02, which is heading toward Sertung Island and conducting a search in the area,” he said. (yas)
