INDOPOSCO.ID – Protesters began arriving outside the House of Representatives (DPR) Building on Gatot Subroto Street, Central Jakarta, on Friday (June 19, 2026). They are calling on the government to review several policies that they believe have placed a burden on the public.
Among the groups that had arrived at the location were members of the Islamic Students Association (HMI), students from Trisakti University, and several other community organizations.
One of the speakers led a prayer, expressing hope that the demonstration would resonate with lawmakers and produce tangible outcomes for the public.
The protesters conducted a long march from Taman Ria Senayan to the front of the DPR Building at around 3:00 p.m. local time, carrying banners bearing the slogan, “Toward National Liberation.”
“Under this scorching sky, we ask for Allah’s help to bless the struggle of oppressed workers and our teachers. Even today, many of them still struggle to make ends meet,” one speaker said from a command vehicle in Jakarta on Friday.
During the demonstration, participants put forward several key demands, including economic and political recovery, the eradication of incompetence among public officials, and the restoration of civilian supremacy.
In addition to these main demands, they urged the government to lower staple food prices, reduce fuel prices while increasing the availability of subsidized fuel, and stop what they described as wasteful state budget spending.
The protesters also called for the temporary suspension and comprehensive evaluation of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program, improvements in government communication with the public, opposition to the proposed National Police Law, and the release of all political prisoners.
Finally, the demonstrators demanded an end to what they described as repressive actions by security forces and militarism in civilian affairs in Eastern Indonesia. They also firmly rejected National Strategic Projects (PSN) that they said do not serve the interests of the people. (dan)
