INDOPOSCO.ID – Vice President of Trisakti University Student Executive Board Muhammad Putra criticized the House of Representatives’ (DPR) oversight function, stating that it has not been properly carried out. He made the statement during a protest in front of the DPR Building on Jalan Gatot Subroto, Central Jakarta, Friday (19/6/2026).
“We see that the DPR, as the legislative body and government supervisor, is not functioning properly,” Muhammad Putra said in Jakarta on Friday (19/6/2026).
The protesters chose the DPR building as the location of the demonstration because the legislative institution plays a strategic role in formulating the budget for government programs.
“That is why we are demanding this here, because several budgets that affect the current economy are influenced by meetings in the DPR. For example, the Free Nutritious Meals program (MBG) goes through discussions in the DPR,” Putra said.
They also questioned a statement from Commission IX of the DPR, which claimed it was unaware of the budget for the MBG program, despite the fact that budget authority using the State Budget (APBN) lies with the DPR.
“The budget allocated for MBG goes through the DPR. Yesterday, what was stated by a member of Commission IX of the DPR was that they were not aware that this budget did not go through the DPR,” Putra said.
“That is what we are demanding now—how the DPR, as the legislative body, should properly carry out its oversight function,” he added.
The three main demands brought in today’s demonstration were the restoration of economic and political conditions, the eradication of official incompetence, and the restoration of civilian supremacy. (dan)
