INDOPOSCO.ID – Students from Bung Karno University (UBK) and MH Thamrin University have given the government several days to respond to their demands following a demonstration held at the Monas intersection in Central Jakarta on Monday (June 15).
The announcement was made after student representatives met with Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka at the Vice Presidential Palace on Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan earlier in the evening. The meeting lasted approximately one hour.
“If within 5×24 hours, no later than Friday, July 19, 2024, the second party violates, ignores, or fails to provide progressive evidence regarding the implementation of this memorandum,” Action Coordinator Muhammad Abdi Maludin said in Jakarta on Monday (June 15, 2026).
He said the students presented three clusters of demands to Gibran, covering fiscal and education policies, law and civil supremacy, and the economy and energy sectors.
Under the fiscal and education cluster, the students called for the temporary suspension of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program and policies implemented by the Deputy for Food Sovereignty in the relevant regions to allow for a transparent audit.
“The second point is to redirect the budget efficiency savings to subsidize tuition fees (UKT) or higher education operational costs in order to make education more affordable,” Abdi Maludin said.
Under the law and civil supremacy cluster, the students urged the government to recommend that the House of Representatives (DPR) conduct a legislative review of the newly enacted National Police Law.
Regarding the monetary and energy crisis cluster, the students demanded intervention by the central monetary authorities to maintain rupiah stability and called for the cancellation of regional Pertamax fuel price increases, which they argued have weakened public purchasing power.
“The third cluster concerns the monetary and energy crisis. One of the points urges the central monetary authority to intervene to stabilize the rupiah and revoke the policy of increasing regional Pertamax fuel prices, as it has been shown to undermine domestic purchasing power,” he added.
