INDOPOSCO.ID – The Government Communications Agency (Bakom) has stated that social media reports claiming President Prabowo Subianto planned to visit Italy following his trip to France remain unconfirmed.
“First, from the outset, there has been no statement from the Indonesian government that the President would travel to Italy,” Bakom head Muhammad Qodari said in Jakarta on Sunday (May 31, 2026).
Qodari emphasized that the only overseas trip on President Prabowo’s official schedule in May was his visit to France. Any reports regarding additional destinations during the trip, he said, could not be confirmed unless officially announced by the government.
“Second, the official schedule was indeed only for France. Third, if there are plans during the trip to visit another destination, they remain only plans until there is an official announcement from the government,” Qodari said.
Regarding Prabowo’s departure for France on May 27, Qodari said the visit was made in response to an invitation from French President Emmanuel Macron and had been publicly announced well in advance.
“Fourth, the President’s state visit to France had already been announced by our Foreign Minister, Mr. Sugiono, as early as April 22, 2026,” Qodari explained.
“If our colleagues review previous records, Mr. Sugiono had already stated at the time, in a direct quote, ‘There are also plans for President Prabowo to make a state visit to France in the near future,'” he added.
Speculation that Prabowo would travel to Italy gained traction on the social media platform X on Saturday (May 30, 2026). Some users also suggested that Austria and Hungary could be additional destinations during the President’s overseas trip. (dan)
