INDOPOSCO.ID – Amid the peak of the Eid homecoming exodus, two people were reported dead following a collision between a Mitsubishi Xpander, license plate B 2135 KZI, and a PO 27 Trans bus on the Batang–Semarang Toll Road at KM 368B on Thursday (March 19, 2026).
Head of the Traffic Unit of Batang Police, Eka Hendra Ardiansyah, said the accident occurred under heavy traffic conditions despite clear weather.
“The crash took place at KM 368 on lane B, a one-way section from Batang to Semarang, precisely in Kedawung Village, Banyuputih District,” he said.
Based on a preliminary investigation at the scene, the Mitsubishi Xpander was traveling from the west (Jakarta) to the east (Semarang) in the rightmost lane on a straight հատված of well-maintained concrete road. However, the driver was suspected of losing concentration.
“Upon reaching the scene, the driver is believed to have been drowsy and crashed into the rear of a bus that had stopped due to engine trouble. The impact killed two people and left two others injured,” he added.
The deceased were identified as the Xpander driver, Andi Endarto (48), a resident of Bekasi, who suffered chest injuries and was pronounced dead at RSI Kendal, and a passenger, Athaya Riski Wistarajaya (16), who sustained severe head trauma.
The injured victims were Dian Arianta Widya (48), who suffered a closed fracture in the right leg, and Ariya Satya Risky (13), who sustained minor head injuries. Both are currently receiving treatment at RSI Kendal.
Authorities urged motorists, particularly during the Eid exodus, to remain alert and ensure they are physically fit before driving.
“If you feel tired or drowsy, take a break at the nearest rest area. Safety must be the top priority,” he said, as reported by Antara. (aro)
