INDOPOSCO.ID – Pop star Britney Spears was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI).
According to People magazine, on Thursday (March 5, 2026) local time, Spears (44) was taken into custody by Ventura County officers on Wednesday night (March 4, 2026) and released Thursday morning, as confirmed by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.
The arrest was processed as a “cite and release,” meaning she was released after receiving a court summons without being held in custody. Spears is scheduled to appear in court on May 4 regarding the incident.
Local law enforcement sources said Spears was arrested for DUI, which was later confirmed by the California Highway Patrol in the Moorpark area.
In a public information release, officers stated that a black BMW 430i was reported to the CHP Ventura communications center for erratic high-speed driving. The vehicle was subsequently stopped by authorities.
“The sole driver, Ms. Spears, exhibited signs of impairment and underwent a series of field sobriety tests,” the statement read. Spears was then arrested under California Vehicle Code Section 23152(g) for driving under the influence of a combination of drugs and alcohol and formally processed.
A representative for Spears said she was “highly emotional and remorseful” following her arrest.
“This was a very unfortunate incident and completely inexcusable,” the representative said.
“Britney will take the appropriate steps and comply with the law, and hopefully this is a first step toward the long-needed changes in her life. We hope she receives the support and assistance needed during this difficult time,” they added.
The representative also noted that her two sons would spend time with her, and her close circle would create a plan to support her well-being.
Spears has two sons, Sean Preston Federline (20) and Jayden James Federline (19), with her ex-husband Kevin Federline.
The arrest comes after years of ups and downs in Spears’ life. In November 2021, her 13-year conservatorship was officially terminated by a Los Angeles County judge.
Last month, Spears reportedly sold her music catalog, though the payment details were not disclosed.
Recently, Spears has also been vocal about her treatment by her family. In a February social media post, she indirectly referenced her family, saying:
“For those of you whose family says they are helping you by isolating you and making you feel extremely left out… they are wrong. We can forgive as humans, but we will never forget,” Spears wrote, as cited by Antara. (aro)
