INDOPOSCO.ID – Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has forecast that most parts of the country are likely to experience rainfall of varying intensity on Monday (December, 22 2025), ranging from light to heavy rain, including thunderstorms accompanied by lightning.
BMKG forecaster Alya Sausan, in a weather outlook video released on the agency’s official YouTube channel on Monday morning, said heavy to very heavy rain is expected to affect several areas, particularly West Java, East Java, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
The agency has urged residents in those regions to heighten their alertness to the potential for extreme weather, which could trigger secondary impacts.
Meanwhile, thunderstorms are forecast to occur in a number of cities, including Bandar Lampung in Lampung Province, Bandung in West Java, Surabaya in East Java, Tanjung Selor in North Kalimantan, and Kupang in East Nusa Tenggara.
Moderate rainfall is predicted for Mamuju in West Sulawesi and Merauke in South Papua.
Light rain, meanwhile, is expected to fall over several other areas such as Pekanbaru and Palembang, Serang, Semarang, Yogyakarta, as well as a number of cities across Kalimantan, Bali, Nusa Tenggara, and Sulawesi.
Similar conditions are also likely in parts of Maluku and Papua, including Jayapura, Sorong, Manokwari, Nabire, and Jayawijaya.
In addition, thick cloud cover is forecast to prevail over several regions, among them Banda Aceh, Medan, Tanjung Pinang, Jambi, Bengkulu, Pangkal Pinang, Jakarta, and Manado.
BMKG also noted that haze or fog could potentially develop in Padang, West Sumatra.
The agency once again called on the public to remain vigilant against possible extreme weather and to regularly monitor the latest forecasts through BMKG’s official website and its social media channels, @info.bmkg. (aro)
