INDOPOSCO.ID — The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported that the total area affected by the wildfire in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) in East Java has reached 889 hectares, spanning four administrative areas: Probolinggo, Lumajang, Malang, and Pasuruan regencies.
To accelerate firefighting efforts, the BNPB, together with the heads of provincial and regency/municipal disaster management agencies, has committed to completing the suppression operation in the Bromo area by Friday (Aug. 14, 2026), in line with the established target.
“Three water-bombing helicopters are currently on standby,” BNPB Head Suharyanto said while inspecting the Mount Bromo area in East Java on Tuesday (Aug. 11, 2026).
Successful firefighting operations in Bromo would allow the water-bombing helicopter fleet to be redeployed to other disaster-prone areas in Indonesia.
“Once the two fire locations in Bromo are successfully extinguished, with Friday as the target, two helicopter units will immediately be redeployed to support firefighting operations in other areas that also require aerial assistance,” Suharyanto said.
Abdul Muhari, a former head of BNPB’s Data, Information and Disaster Communication Center, said the number of wildfire locations in the Mount Bromo area of East Java had begun to decrease as of Monday (Aug. 10, 2026).
“For Bromo, only two locations remain affected by fire, namely B30 and Dingklik Valley,” Abdul Muhari said separately when contacted in Jakarta on Monday (Aug. 10, 2026).
B30 Peak, also commonly known as P30, is one of the highest points in the ancient caldera area of Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS), reaching an elevation of approximately 3,000 meters above sea level.
The wildfire in the Mount Bromo area of East Java has been ongoing since Monday (Aug. 3, 2026), at around 5 p.m. local time (WIB). Initially, the burned area was estimated at approximately 60 hectares across Probolinggo and Malang regencies as of Wednesday (Aug. 5, 2026). (dan)
