Occupied East Jerusalem has entered the holiday period under a somber atmosphere. The Old City area, usually crowded with Palestinians ahead of Eid al-Fitr, appeared deserted, resembling a ghost town.
Israel has restricted access under a ban on public gatherings, while Palestinian merchants have been prohibited from opening their shops. Only pharmacies and essential goods stores have been allowed to operate, as reported by Anadolu via Antara.
Several Palestinian traders, who declined to be named for fear of Israeli reprisals, said the restrictions had placed severe economic pressure on them. (aro)
