INDOPOSCO.ID – President Prabowo Subianto summoned several senior economic ministers to his private residence in Hambalang, Bogor, on Sunday (Feb. 15, 2026) afternoon to discuss Indonesia’s strategic approach to upcoming economic negotiations with the United States.
“In the meeting, the President emphasized two key points,” Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said in a statement in Jakarta.
First, he stressed that any position Indonesia adopts in economic negotiations with any country must deliver the greatest possible benefit to national interests.
The immediate focus, Teddy said, is preparations for economic talks with the United States, which are expected to begin in the near future.
“Particularly in the near term with the United States, [the outcome] must be the best and most advantageous for Indonesia,” he said.
According to Teddy, the President wants every negotiation process to help boost domestic industrial productivity while strengthening Indonesia’s position in the global industrial supply chain.
The second key point, he added, is that economic cooperation must not be short-term in nature but should also reinforce the foundations of national industry.
He further noted that the President underscored that every economic policy adopted by the government must yield tangible and immediate benefits for Indonesia.
The directive will serve as guidance for ministers in formulating strategic steps that are swift, measurable, and capable of delivering a direct impact on national economic growth.
Among those attending the meeting were Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, and Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto.
President Prabowo is scheduled to visit the United States on Feb. 19, 2026, to sign an Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART) with President Donald Trump, and to attend the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace, as reported by Antara.
Airlangga said details of the tariff agreement are still being finalized, but Indonesia’s export tariffs to the United States have been reduced from 32 percent to 19 percent. The government has urged the public to wait until the entire process is completed. (aro)
