INDOPOSCO.ID – The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), is investigating the arrest of six Indonesian nationals (WNI) who were allegedly caught entering Singapore illegally by sea.
The ministry’s Directorate for the Protection of Indonesian Citizens (PWNI) confirmed in a statement received in Jakarta on Monday that the arrests were carried out by Singapore’s Police Coast Guard on Sunday (December. 21, 2025).
Indonesia’s Embassy in Singapore is currently coordinating with the Singapore Police Force (SPF) regarding the case.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore, is coordinating with the Singapore Police Force (SPF) concerning the arrest of six Indonesian nationals suspected of entering Singapore unlawfully by sea on December 21, 2025,” the statement said.
According to the PWNI Directorate, the arrests took place after Singapore’s Police Coast Guard detected a wooden boat in waters off Tanah Merah in the early hours of Sunday. Six men, aged between 23 and 29, were subsequently apprehended.
Following the incident, the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore has continued to engage with local authorities to verify the identities of the six individuals and to determine the appropriate consular protection measures.
“The Indonesian Embassy in Singapore is seeking official information from local authorities regarding the identities, legal status, and handling of the six Indonesian nationals, including any charges and subsequent legal proceedings in accordance with Singaporean law,” the PWNI Directorate said.
Earlier, Singaporean local media reported the arrest of six Indonesian men for illegally entering the country on December 21, 2025.
In a statement issued the same day, Singapore police said the Police Coast Guard detected a wooden boat carrying six men in waters off Tanah Merah at around 12:35 a.m. The vessel was intercepted and all six men—aged between 23 and 29 were arrested on suspicion of unlawful entry into Singapore, as reported by Antara.
