INDOPOSCO.ID – The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecasts rainfall of varying intensity across many major cities in Indonesia at the start of this week.
In an online weather briefing delivered from Jakarta on Monday (November, 24, 2025) , BMKG forecaster Sastia Frista said that several areas in Sumatra, including Bandar Lampung, are expected to experience dense cloud cover.
She added that light rain is likely in Banda Aceh, Pekanbaru, Tanjung Pinang, Jambi, Bengkulu, and Pangkal Pinang. Meanwhile, moderate rainfall is forecast for Palembang and Medan, with the possibility of thunderstorms in Pekanbaru and Padang.
“For the Java region, dense cloud cover is expected in Serang and Jakarta. Light rain may fall over Bandung, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya, while Semarang should remain alert for potential thunderstorms,” she said.
In Bali and Nusa Tenggara, light rain is likely in Denpasar, Mataram, and Kupang.
BMKG also predicts that major cities across Kalimantan may experience rainfall of varying intensity, from light showers in Samarinda to thunderstorms in Pontianak, Tanjung Selor, Palangka Raya, and Banjarmasin.
In Sulawesi, dense cloud cover is expected in Manado and Kendari. Light rain may occur in Palu and Gorontalo, while Mamuju and Makassar could see moderate rainfall.
In eastern Indonesia, Sorong and Nabire are forecast to see dense clouds. Light rain may fall in Ternate, Ambon, Manokwari, Jayawijaya, and Merauke, while Jayapura is likely to experience moderate rain.
Additionally, BMKG noted that several cities are expected to see higher temperatures, including Kupang and Pontianak, where daytime highs may reach up to 33 degrees Celsius.
“Residents in Denpasar, Mataram, Kupang, Pontianak, and surrounding areas are advised to stay alert, as temperatures are projected to range between 31 and 33 degrees Celsius,” Sastia said. (aro)
