INDOPOSCO.ID – Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has forecast that weather conditions across the country during the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year holidays will generally range from cloudy to moderate rain. However, the public is urged to remain alert to the potential for heavy to very heavy rainfall in several regions.
BMKG Head Teuku Faisal Fathani reminded the public to continuously monitor weather updates, as conditions may change at any time, along with possible hydrometeorological impacts.
“Amid the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year celebrations, BMKG advises the public and stakeholders to remain calm but vigilant, and to exercise caution when planning activities,” Faisal said in a statement in Jakarta on Friday (Dec. 26, 2025).
BMKG’s Director of Public Meteorology, Andri Ramdhani, warned of the potential for heavy to very heavy rain, which may be accompanied by lightning and strong winds in several areas during the period of Dec. 26–28, 2025.
“These include Aceh, North Sumatra, Bengkulu, most parts of Java Island, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Central Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, and South Papua.
Strong winds may also occur in Banten, Central Java, East Java, Bali, NTB, NTT, South Sulawesi, and Maluku,” Andri Ramdhani said.
Entering the period of Dec. 29, 2025 to Jan. 1, 2026, the potential for heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected to persist in Aceh, North Sumatra, Bengkulu, and West Nusa Tenggara, along with the possibility of strong winds in several other regions.
National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo also underscored the importance of preparedness in anticipating potential natural disasters as part of security measures for the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year holidays.
He delivered the message while leading the Banser National Assembly at the courtyard of Syarif Abdurachman Mosque in Cirebon, West Java, on Tuesday (Dec. 23, 2025).
He emphasized that year-end security operations are not only challenged by conventional security concerns, but also by the risks posed by extreme weather and natural disasters in various parts of Indonesia.
“The security situation during this year’s Christmas and New Year celebrations faces different challenges, one of which is the potential for extreme weather and natural disasters. This requires preparedness and solid cooperation from all parties,” Listyo said separately in Cirebon, West Java, on Tuesday (Dec. 23, 2025). (dan)
