In a post on X early Sunday (Dec. 7, 2025), Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the incident occurred on Saturday night in the Arpora district.
“Today is one of the darkest days for the people of Goa. A major fire in Arpora has claimed 23 lives,” he stated.
Sawant added that after inspecting the site, he immediately ordered a thorough investigation into the tragedy.
“The inquiry will determine the exact cause of the fire and assess whether fire safety protocols and building regulations were followed,” he said.
“Anyone found negligent or responsible will face the strictest legal action,” he emphasized.
According to a report by Press Trust of India, the blaze was triggered by a gas cylinder explosion, with most of the victims being kitchen staff at the nightclub, as reported by Anadolu via Antara.
